Samsara Pricing 2026: How Much Does Samsara Cost?

Rules, prices and device details on this page were checked October 2026 against the official sources listed at the bottom. Where a provider doesn't publish a number, we say so instead of guessing.

Samsara is one of the biggest names in fleet telematics, and one of the hardest to price. There's no public price list on its website. Instead, you fill out a form with your fleet size and a sales rep sends a quote. That makes it tough to compare, so we pulled together what Samsara itself says about how it sells, what its public filings say about contracts, and what to ask for when you get a quote. For a full look at the product, read our Samsara review.

Plans

Samsara sells software licenses by product rather than one bundle. A fleet typically picks from:

  • Vehicle telematics and ELD. GPS tracking, hours of service logs, DVIRs, IFTA mileage and engine diagnostics.
  • Video based safety. AI dash cams with road and driver facing views, coaching workflows and safety scores.
  • Equipment and asset tracking. Trackers for trailers, heavy equipment and powered or unpowered assets.
  • Reefer monitoring. Temperature sensors and alerts for refrigerated trailers.
  • Site visibility and other add ons. Cameras for yards and facilities, plus workflow and maintenance tools.

Each product is a separate license per vehicle or asset, billed on top of the hardware. A fleet that only needs ELD compliance pays less than one that wants cameras on every truck. When you ask for a quote, list exactly which products you need so you aren't priced for features you won't use.

The pricing page asks for fleet size and contact details before it gives you any numbers. Samsara also says in its annual report that it uses a free trial model, so you can usually test the hardware on a few trucks before you commit. For smaller customers, it also runs a self service web store.

Hardware

Samsara's vehicle gateway plugs into the truck's diagnostic port and connects to the driver app on a phone or tablet. Dash cams, asset trackers and sensors are separate devices. How hardware is billed depends on the deal. Some quotes fold it into the subscription, and others list it as a separate charge. Ask the rep to show hardware, install and shipping as their own lines so you can compare quotes fairly.

A few hardware questions worth asking:

  • Is hardware owned, leased or included in the license?
  • What happens to the hardware if you cancel or the contract ends?
  • Is professional installation included or extra?
  • Which cable do your trucks need, and is it included?
  • What's the warranty, and how fast are replacements shipped?

Contracts

This is the part that matters most. According to Samsara's annual report to the SEC, its subscription contracts typically have an initial term of three to five years, and they're generally non cancelable and non refundable. That's a long commitment compared with month to month ELDs aimed at small fleets.

A multiyear term isn't automatically bad. It can lock in a lower rate and protect you from price increases. But you should go in knowing that leaving early is likely to be expensive, and that you'll be paying for every licensed vehicle for the full term even if your fleet shrinks.

Before you sign, read these parts of the agreement:

  • The term length and start date.
  • Renewal terms, including whether it renews on its own and the notice period to stop it.
  • Any price increase allowed at renewal.
  • What happens if you sell trucks or downsize.
  • Whether you can move licenses between vehicles.
  • How you get your data out if you leave.

Hidden Costs

The license price isn't the whole bill. Watch for these:

  • Installation. Cameras and hardwired gateways may need a technician.
  • Cables and adapters. Mixed fleets may need several cable types.
  • Driver devices. The ELD app runs on a phone or tablet. If you supply tablets and mounts, that's an extra cost.
  • Data plans. Driver devices need cell service.
  • Unused licenses. On a fixed term, licenses for parked or sold trucks still cost money.
  • Add ons. Features you add later usually come with their own license and may extend your term.
  • Taxes and fees. Make sure the quote includes them.

Negotiating

Since Samsara sets prices through sales quotes, there's usually room to talk. Here's how to get a better deal:

  • Get competing quotes. Ask Motive, Geotab resellers and others for written quotes on the same products. Our Samsara vs Geotab and Motive vs Samsara comparisons help you frame them.
  • Use the trial. Test on a few trucks and note any problems before you sign.
  • Time it. Sales teams often have more flexibility near the end of a quarter.
  • Ask about term length. See what price you get on a shorter term versus a longer one.
  • Bundle carefully. Bundling cameras and ELD can lower the per unit price, but only if you need both.
  • Get everything in writing. Any promise about pricing, hardware swaps or cancellation should be in the contract.

Estimating Your Total

Without a price list, the best way to plan is to build your own model. List every vehicle and asset you'd license, the products on each and the term. Multiply the monthly license by the number of units and months, then add hardware, install, tablets and data. That's your total cost of ownership for the contract. Divide it by the number of trucks and months and you have a true monthly cost per truck to compare against other quotes.

Run the model twice: once with your current fleet size and once with a smaller fleet. If you'd still be paying for licenses on trucks you don't have, that's the real risk of a long term, and it should shape how many licenses you commit to on day one. It's often smarter to start with fewer licenses and add more later, since adding is usually easier than removing.

Alternatives

If a three to five year term doesn't fit, there are plenty of other options. Many small fleet ELDs publish prices and run month to month. HOS247 lists plans from $19 a month, BIT ELD offers $40 a month or $400 a year, and the Garmin eLog is a one time hardware purchase listed at $249.99 with no monthly fee for its basic logging. For a wider list, see our best ELD devices roundup and our guide to no contract ELDs.

Samsara is a strong platform for fleets that want deep safety and operations tools and can commit for several years. For a fleet that just needs compliant logs, a cheaper, shorter commitment usually makes more sense.
